The class aims to study the operation and modeling of power electronic conversion systems in power generation, transmission and distribution networks. The class covers aspects of distributed generation (wind/solar), HVDC transmission, Static VAR compensation, FACTS devices, energy storage systems and custom power devices. The students will be exposed to issues related to power quality as it relates to the application of power electronics in the grid.
