AMCS 200 Mathematical Economics and Finance

This is an interdisciplinary course for students of science and engineering who desire to learn about economics and finance for their basic concepts, mathematical modelling, and applications to daily life. Representing an active field in applied mathematics, the course covers basic theories of economics (both macro and micro) and finance and is enhanced by mathematical models that give qualitative and quantitative understanding of those theories. As a result, the course will train students to approach and understand economic and financial problems not only from the traditional social science viewpoint but also from analytical viewpoint based on mathematical modelling and analysis. In addition, the students will also learn some basic and convention technical tools for understanding and analyzing some economic and financial problems.
