Academic Standing
Academic standing is based on the following:
1. Students are expected to maintain a Cumulative GPA of 3.00 – 4.00.
- Students who have a GPA of 2.33 – 2.99 will be placed on Academic Probation.
- Students who have a Cumulative GPA of below 2.33 will face Academic Dismissal.
2. U (Unsatisfactory) and F (Fail) grades, including credit, non-credit, and ESL courses, but excluding audit grades.
- Cumulative three U and/or F grades – Academic Dismissal.
3. Successful and timely completion of academic milestones and degree requirements as outlined in the Program Guide. This includes:
- Course requirements associated with Assessment Tests
- Qualifying Examination or Pre-Proposal Defense
- Proposal Defense
- Thesis/Dissertation
- Final Defense
- Archiving
Students who do not meet these requirements will face Academic Dismissal. Please also refer to the Academic Sanctions, as well as the Time Limit and Extensions Policy for more information.
4. Divisions can recommend to the Office of the Registrar to place students on Academic Sanction based on unsatisfactory research performance at any time, which must be endorsed by the Dean.
