ME 243 Statistical Thermodynamics

The course is focused on connecting classical thermodynamics with the underlying statistical thermodynamic concepts. The emphasis will be on application to substances in the gas phase. Topics covered: kinetic description of dilute gases, equilibrium kinetic theory, classical statistics of independent particles, quantum mechanics fundamentals, Schrodinger equation, partition functions, quantum statistics, thermostatic properties of ideal gases and real substances.
