Time Limits and Extensions
This policy applies to students who enroll in the first semester of their degrees from Fall 2023. The previous Time Limits and Extensions Policy applies to students who enrolled in degree programs prior to Fall 2023.
All students are expected to graduate within the stipulated time limit for study as outlined below:
- PGDip: 2 Semesters and 1 Summer Session
- MS Non-Thesis: 3 Semesters and 1 Summer Session
- MS Thesis: 4 Semesters and 1 Summer Session
- PhD: 8 Semesters and 4 Summer Sessions
PGDip students are not eligible for extensions and will be issued with a Dismissal Notice if they do not graduate within the time limit set out above.
MS students are eligible to apply for one extension, the approval of which is at the discretion of the Dean. A count of one extension is considered regardless of whether it is for a Semester or Summer Session.
PhD students are eligible to apply for three extensions, the approval of which is at the discretion of the Dean. A count of one extension is considered regardless of whether it is for a Semester or Summer Session. Each extension must be approved by the Dean ahead of the start of the following Semester or Session, and must be applied for one at a time.
All extensions must include a statement of the remaining scope of work.
